Carolina Mejía impulsa cooperación con Japón en semiconductores y modernización institucional

TOKIO.– La alcaldesa del Distrito Nacional, Carolina Mejía, desarrolló una agenda oficial en Japón orientada a fortalecer las relaciones bilaterales y promover oportunidades de cooperación en áreas estratégicas como semiconductores, energías renovables, sostenibilidad y modernización institucional.
Durante su visita, realizada por invitación del Gobierno japonés, Mejía destacó la importancia de fomentar el intercambio comercial y explorar inversiones en la industria de semiconductores, con el objetivo de que la República Dominicana pueda integrarse a la cadena global mediante procesos de fabricación, prueba y empaquetado.
La funcionaria explicó que esta iniciativa busca generar empleos calificados en el sector tecnológico y ampliar las capacidades productivas del país, tras reunirse con la viceministra de Asuntos Exteriores de Japón, Arfiya Eri, con quien abordó el fortalecimiento de los vínculos económicos y culturales entre ambas naciones.
Mejía subrayó que, con asesoramiento técnico e infraestructura adecuada, el país puede avanzar en el desarrollo de esta industria, destacando su posición estratégica y estabilidad macroeconómica como ventajas competitivas.
En su encuentro con el vicepresidente senior de la Agencia de Cooperación Internacional del Japón (JICA), Kobayashi Hiroyuki, la alcaldesa profundizó en oportunidades de colaboración en gestión de residuos sólidos, resiliencia climática, planificación urbana, movilidad sostenible, agricultura y modernización de servicios públicos.
Mejía resaltó el papel de JICA como aliado clave en América Latina y expresó el interés dominicano en ampliar programas de asistencia técnica que permitan incorporar estándares internacionales en infraestructura, innovación y sostenibilidad.
Asimismo, insistió en la necesidad de fortalecer las capacidades técnicas de las instituciones públicas dominicanas mediante transferencia de conocimiento, formación especializada y desarrollo de infraestructura tecnológica.
La agenda incluyó una reunión oficial con la gobernadora metropolitana de Tokio, Yuriko Koike, donde intercambiaron experiencias sobre gobernanza metropolitana, movilidad inteligente, resiliencia urbana y políticas orientadas a la neutralidad de carbono.
Koike compartió los desafíos de gestionar una metrópoli de más de 14 millones de habitantes y destacó la importancia de la planificación a largo plazo en grandes capitales.
Como parte de su visita, Mejía recorrió una planta de tratamiento de residuos sólidos del área metropolitana de Tokio, donde conoció procesos de clasificación, valorización energética y reducción del impacto ambiental.
La alcaldesa valoró la experiencia japonesa en economía circular y cultura ciudadana de separación de residuos, señalando que estas prácticas pueden adaptarse progresivamente al contexto dominicano.
La visita oficial combinó diplomacia económica, cooperación técnica y una visión estratégica orientada a la innovación productiva y la sostenibilidad, proyectando iniciativas para el desarrollo institucional y tecnológico de la República Dominicana.
