Apple someterá a una auditoría externa sus propias políticas laborales
NUEVA YORK.- Apple evaluará mediante una auditoría externa sus prácticas laborales en Estados Unidos en el marco de un acuerdo con una coalición de inversores.
La evaluación se centrará en si Apple está cumpliendo con su política oficial de derechos laborales en lo que respecta a la «libertad de asociación y los derechos de negociación colectiva de los trabajadores en los Estados Unidos», dijo la compañía ante la Comisión de Bolsa y Valores (SEC, por sus siglas en inglés).
La auditoría se produce cuando la empresa ha sido acusada, tanto por empleados como por reguladores federales, de haber violado los derechos laborales de los trabajadores cuando intentaban sindicalizarse en 2022.
Apple, por su parte, ha negado estas acusaciones, pero acordó contratar a una empresa externa para realizar la evaluación.
“Existe una gran brecha entre las políticas de derechos humanos declaradas de Apple con respecto a la organización de los trabajadores y sus prácticas”, dijo Brad Lander, el contralor de la ciudad de Nueva York, quien ayudó a iniciar la discusión con Apple en nombre de los fondos de pensiones de los trabajadores públicos de la ciudad, en declaraciones recogidas por The New York Times.
Los miembros de la coalición de inversionistas controlan alrededor de 7.000 millones de dólares en acciones de Apple, según el periódico.
El año pasado, los trabajadores votaron a favor de sindicalizarse en dos tiendas Apple: en Townson, en el estado de Maryland, y en la ciudad de Oklahoma, en el estado homónimo, y los trabajadores de otras dos tiendas presentaron peticiones para realizar elecciones sindicales antes de retirarlas.
El pasado mayo, Apple anunció que aumentaría su salario mínimo inicial de 20 dólares a 22 dólares por hora, un paso que algunos trabajadores interpretaron como un esfuerzo por socavar sus campañas de organización.
Según el rotativo, varios trabajadores también han presentado cargos acusando a Apple de violaciones de la ley laboral en al menos seis tiendas.
