Jimmy Kimmel arremete contra Trump y pide perdón por los comentarios sobre Charlie Kirk

LOS ANGELES.- Jimmy Kimmel regresó este martes a su programa con un emotivo discurso en el que pidió disculpas por los comentarios sobre el activista conservador Charlie Kirk y arremetió contra el presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump, por “no aguantar las bromas” y deteriorar la libertad de expresión del país.
Con una masiva ovación, Kimmel volvía a aparecer en la pequeña pantalla con un mensaje claro y contundente. “No podemos permitir que nuestro gobierno controle lo que decimos y lo que no decimos en televisión».
El humorista comenzó su intervención agradeciendo a quienes siguieron apoyando el programa y “se preocuparon lo suficiente como para hacer algo al respecto, para que sus voces se escucharan». “Nunca lo olvidaré.
“Quiero agradecer a quienes no apoyan mi programa ni mis creencias, pero apoyan mi derecho a compartirlas de todos modos”, agregó. Continuó su intervención afirmando haber escuchado mucho acerca de qué y cómo debía conducir el programa de esta noche, aunque aseguró que no espera marcar una gran diferencia con sus palabras.
“Si te gusto, te gusto; si no, no te gusto. No me hago ilusiones de cambiar la opinión de nadie, pero quiero dejar algo claro, porque es importante para mí como ser humano, y es que entiendan que nunca fue mi intención restarle importancia al asesinato de un joven”, indicó Kimmel mientras se emocionaba y rompía a llorar.
“Entiendo que para algunos fue inoportuno o poco claro, o tal vez ambas cosas, y para quienes creen que señalé a alguien, entiendo por qué están molestos. Si la situación fuera al revés, es muy probable que me hubiera sentido igual”, agregó.
El humorista quiso zanjar el tema haciendo hincapié en la importancia de cultivar un país “que permita tener un programa como este”, aunque no se emitiera en todas las cadenas habituales.
El popular programa nocturno de Kimmel enfrenta un boicot parcial por parte de algunas compañías como Nexstar y Sinclair, que controlan más de 50 de estos canales en EE.UU. y se negaron a emitir el programa nocturno.
De hecho algunas zonas como la capital estadounidense no pudieron ver el espectáculo de Kimmel en las televisiones, aunque sí pudo verse en algunos canales de transmisión por cable.
“Si no tenemos libertad de expresión, simplemente no tenemos un país libre. Así de simple. Si permitimos que este derecho fundamental perezca, el resto de nuestros derechos y libertades se derrumbarán, como fichas de dominó, uno a uno”, alegó Kimmel, seguido del aplauso de los asistentes.
Parte de su monólogo de apertura lo aprovechó para atacar a Trump por señalar a periodistas y para realizar un alegato en favor de la libertad de prensa.
El Gobierno de EE.UU. “quiere elegir qué noticias son las correctas. Sé que no es tan interesante como silenciar a un comediante, pero es fundamental tener una prensa libre, y es una locura que no le estemos prestando más atención”, advirtió.
Trump ha dejado muy claro “que quiere vernos a mí y a los cientos de personas que trabajamos aquí despedidos de nuestros trabajos. Nuestro líder celebra que los estadounidenses pierdan sus medios de vida porque no aguanta una broma”, continuó.
Y concluyó con una alegato en favor de Erika Kirk, quien durante el acto de despedida de su marido el pasado fin de semana, perdonó a quien lo había disparado.
“Lo perdonó. Es un ejemplo que debemos seguir si creen en las enseñanzas de Jesús, como yo. Ahí fue. Un acto desinteresado de gracia y perdón de una viuda afligida”, sentenció Kimmel.
