Microsoft despedirá unos 9.000 empleados, cerca 4% plantilla

NUEVA YORK.- El gigante tecnológico Microsoft ha anunciado este miércoles que eliminará unos 9.000 puestos de trabajo en lo que será la segunda ronda de despidos de 2025 para mantener a raya los costes, al tiempo que, en paralelo, aumentará la inversión en inteligencia artificial (IA).
Según ha explicado un portavoz de la empresa a ‘Bloomberg’, menos de un 4% de la plantilla se verá afectada, pero la iniciativa impactará a todos los niveles del organigrama, antigüedades y geografías.
«Seguimos implementando los cambios organizativos necesarios para orientar mejor hacia el éxito tanto a la empresa como a los equipos dentro de un mercado dinámico», ha argumentado.
La multinacional contaba con 228.000 trabajadores a finales de junio de 2024, con 126.000 de ellos en Estados Unidos. Microsoft suele reestructurar plantillas y comunicar otros cambios cerca del final de su año fiscal, que cierra en junio.
La compañía ya anunció en mayo planes similares que se saldaron con el despido de unas 6.000 personas y que afectó, fundamentalmente, a la división de productos e ingeniería.
Además, el pasado 24 de junio trascendió que Microsoft estaba ultimando la salida de empleados de su área de Xbox, la consola de videojuegos de la compañía. Este será el cuarto ajuste en 18 meses dentro de Xbox después de que, solo en 2024, se ejecutasen tres y se cerrasen varias filiales.
