NUEVA YORK.- El actor estadounidense y excampeón mundial de kárate Chuck Norris falleció a los 86 años, según informó su familia en un comunicado publicado en Instagram este viernes.

Con gran pesar, nuestra familia comunica el repentino fallecimiento de nuestro querido Chuck Norris, ocurrido ayer por la mañana. Aunque preferimos mantener la privacidad de las circunstancias, queremos que sepan que estuvo rodeado de su familia y que partió en paz», escribió la familia en una publicación en la red social acompañada de una foto en blanco y negro del actor.

Según informaron varios medios este jueves, Norris había sido ingresado en un hospital en Hawái después de sufrir una emergencia médica.

Para el mundo, fue un artista marcial, un actor y un símbolo de fuerza. Para nosotros, fue un esposo devoto, un padre y abuelo cariñoso, un hermano increíble y el corazón de nuestra familia», añadió su entorno en el mensaje.

Norris se convirtió en uno de los rostros más conocidos del cine de acción de los años 70 y 80 después de saltar a la gran pantalla con ‘The Way of the Dragon‘ (1972), conocida por su famoso combate contra Bruce Lee.

Más tarde protagonizó ‘Breaker, Breaker!’ (1977) y participó en la serie de televisión ‘Walker, Texas Ranger’ (1993-2001), que amplió su popularidad.

Nacido el 10 de marzo de 1940 en Oklahoma (Estados Unidos), se alistó en 1958 en la Fuerza Aérea de EE.UU. y fue destinado a Corea del Sur, donde descubrió las artes marciales, iniciándose en el Tang Soo Do.

A su regreso a su país, abrió varias escuelas de kárate y comenzó a competir, destacando rápidamente hasta proclamarse campeón mundial de kárate profesional en 1968, título que mantuvo hasta 1974, año en que se retiró. Durante esta etapa desarrolló su propio sistema de combate, el Chun Kuk Do.
