Nadador australiano Cameron McEvoy bate récord del mundo de 50 m libres

PARÍS.- El nadador australiano Cameron McEvoy batió el récord del mundo de los 50 m libres este viernes durante una competición en Shenzhen, en China, con lo que puso fin a la marca establecida en 2009 por el brasileño César Cielo.
Con un tiempo de 20.88 segundos, el campeón olímpico de esa distancia en los Juegos de París 2024 superó por tres centésimas de segundo el registro de Cielo, que fue firmado durante la época de los bañadores de poliuretano.
A los 31 años, el australiano es el primero en bajar de los 21 segundos sin la ayuda de esos bañadores, prohibidos a partir de 2010.
McEvoy pulverizó su mejor marca previa, de 21.06 s, durante la final del China Swimming Open disputado el viernes en Shenzhen.
Dominó la carrera y terminó muy por delante del estadounidense Jack Alexy (21.57 s) y del también australiano Kyle Chalmers (22.01 s).
«¡Una carrera rápida como el rayo! ¡Increíble!», reaccionó Cielo en Instagram.
«Hace un tiempo leí una frase que resume perfectamente lo que has logrado: ‘No cambiamos nunca las cosas luchando contra la realidad existente. Para cambiar algo, hace falta construir un nuevo modo de hacer obsoleto lo antiguo’. ¡Felicidades!», añadió el brasileño.
McEvoy, doble campeón del mundo de la prueba en 2023 y 2025, respondió a Cielo en esa misma red social.
«Si he podido ver más lejos que los demás es por ir a hombros de gigantes, y tú, amigo mío, eres un gigante en este deporte», sostuvo.
