Petróleo en alza
El barril de petróleo situado en 120 dólares -y subiendo- es parte de las ondas expansivas de la guerra entre Estados Unidos, Israel e Irán. Un conflicto que, aunque lejano, también nos afecta porque en ese conflicto se pelea con misiles pero también con precios.
República Dominicana importa la mayor parte de la energía que consume. Por eso, cualquier choque petrolero se traduce en presión inflacionaria, encarecimiento del transporte, costos logísticos más altos y aumento del precio de los bienes básicos. Y es que cuando el combustible sube, también se tensiona el sistema eléctrico y las tarifas sienten el golpe.
Un problema complejo porque si el Estado decide contener los precios, aumentaría el gasto en subsidios, pero si no contiene, entonces subiría el costo de vida erosionando el poder adquisitivo. En ambos escenarios, el país termina pagando.
Pero, además, un petróleo así encarece los fletes y pasajes afectando el turismo, el comercio y la competitividad regional. Porque en un mundo donde el estrecho de Ormuz vuelve a ser factor de riesgo, la volatilidad podría prolongarse más de lo imaginable.
Algunos economistas han señalado que si el oro se mantiene alto, se podría compensar parcialmente vía ingresos fiscales y exportaciones, pero eso no neutraliza la presión energética sobre hogares y empresas, por lo tanto, urge echar a correr un plan sectorial de contingencia.
Cada crisis en Medio Oriente confirma que la seguridad energética es seguridad nacional y que diversificar fuentes, acelerar renovables y blindar la logística, es una política de estabilidad económica. Porque si hoy el barril sube, mañana la factura llega.
